Citrus clock - Ρολόι εσπεριδοειδών

I just turned around to Aris saying: “shit … you can power a clock with fruit!” And Aris looked at me like I just crawled out of a cave. Obviously on the day my class was learning this in Chemistry I was re-threading my sewing machine … or knitting! So, this clock is powered by “primary school chemistry” and an electrolysis between the plug and the lemon. For those of you that read english, wiki has an entry titled “lemon battery” and for those who read greek, Aris has added a little description in greek after the jump.

The Anna Gram site says that the clock will run on the energy of the lemon for a week or longer and was designed in an effort to “remind ourselves that nature, in spite of the various transformations to which we subject her, is still our direct energy source”.

Μόλις είπα στον Άρη: “shit … με ένα φρούτο μπορείς να τροφοδοτήσεις ένα ρολόι με ρεύμα!” Κι ο Άρης με κοίταξε λες και μόλις βγήκα από κανά σπήλαιο. Προφανέστατα τη μέρα που μαθαίναμε για αυτά τα πράγματα στη Χημεία εγώ έβαζα κλωστή στη ραπτική μου μηχανή … ή έπλεκα! Λοιπόν, αυτό το ρολόι τροφοδοτείται με “προσχολική χημεία” και την ηλεκτρόλυση μεταξύ του βύσματος και του λεμονιού. Για εσάς που διαβάζετε αγγλικά, η βικιπαίδια έχει ένα λήμα με τίτλο “μπαταρία λεμονιού” και για σας που διαβάζετε ελληνικά, ο Άρης έχει προσθέσει μια μικρή περιγραφή στα ελληνικά στη συνέχεια του άρθρου.

Η ιστοσελίδα της Anna Gram λέει πως το ρολόι λειτουργεί με το ρεύμα από ένα λεμόνι για μια εβδομάδα ή περισσότερο και σχεδιάστηκε σε μία προσπάθεια να “μας υπενθυμίσει πως η φύση, αντίθετα με τις μετατροπές στις οποίες την υποβάλουμε, είναι ακόμα η άμεση ενεργειακή πηγή μας”.

M.C. Escher at Museum Herakleidon - Έκθεση Μ.Κ. Έσερ

Up until January, the Museum Herakleidon will be showing Escher drawings in Thissio. The sheer number of works that will be on display throughout the year means that they have to show the exhibition over four phases. The first phase is titled the ‘Period of Discovery’ and will run up until the 11th of January. The other three phases will be shown as follows but we will throw a reminder up when they come along:

• Second Phase ”Italian Period” ~ 17/01/09 - 18/04/09
• Third Phase “Unknown Escher” ~ 25/04/09 - 02/08/09
• Forth Phase “Escher in Color” ~ 22/08/09 - 15/11/09

I remember going to an exhibition of Escher works at the Herakleidon a couple of years ago. ‘06 I think and I was very impressed with their space and particularly the treatment of the works within it. Each artwork had plenty of space around it and each was very well lit. They also presented a fantastic range of work and there was alot of it. I havεn’t managed to see this one as yet but I am positive that they have again put together a great exhibition.

Μέχρι τον Ιανουάριο, το Μουσείο Herakleidon θα παρουσιάζει σχέδια του Έσερ στο Θησείο. Ο μεγάλος αριθμός έργων που θα παρουσιαστούν στη διάρκεια του έτους σημαίνει πως θα πρέπει να παρουσιαστεί η έκθεση σε τέσσερεις φάσεις. Η πρώτη φάση έχει τίτλο “Η Περίοδος της Ανακάλυψης” και θα διαρκέσει μέχρι τις 11 Ιανουαρίου. Οι άλλες τρεις φάσεις θα παρουσιαστούν ως ακολουθεί αλλά θα ρίξουμε μία υπενθύμιση όταν πλησιάζουν:

• Δεύτερη Φάση “Η Ιταλική Περίοδος” ~ 17/01/09 - 18/04/09
• Τρίτη Φάση “Ο Άγνωστος Escher” ~ 25/04/09 - 02/08/09
• Τέταρτη Φάση “Το Χρώμα στον Escher” ~ 22/08/09 - 15/11/09

Θυμάμαι να είχα πάει σε μία έκθεση με έργα του Έσερ στο Ηerakleidon πριν κανα δυο χρόνια. ‘06 νομίζω και ήμουν πολύ εντυπωσιασμένη με τον χώρο και συγκεκριμένα με την μεταχείριση των έργων σε αυτόν. Κάθε έργο είχε πολύ χώρο γύρω του και ήταν φωτισμένο πολύ καλά. Επίσης παρουσιάσανε μία φανταστική σειρά έργων και μάλιστα πολλά. Δεν έχω καταφέρει ακόμα να δώ αυτή ακόμα αλλά είμαι θετική πως και πάλι έχουν διοργανώσει μία εξαιρετική έκθεση.
